GCS Records Set at Eastern Championships

We headed into Easterns with excellent preparation. After our two-week holiday break, January had been jam packed with a bootcamp, several on and off-ice practices, a dress rehearsal, and a send-off exhibition in Central Park.

Our first day in Worcester included unofficial and official practice for both Adult and Masters, giving us a chance to get be in our skates and work through the program in a new environment. Both teams had strong unofficial practices which set the bar high for the official practice and competition to come. We aimed to improve at each step.

On competition day, Masters started off by perfecting their innovative David Bowie-inspired hair and makeup looks which included blue and silver eyeliner and hair in two buns. At Easterns, we added a streak of blue hairspray which really popped on the ice! The Adult team enjoyed some “team time” and looked forward to cheering on the Masters team.

Masters skated second out of six teams. They had their best skate of the season, to date, scoring a 38.23. By receiving five of their six planned level calls and improving GOEs and program components, they were able to increase their score from Cape Cod Classic by 10 points! They celebrated in the locker room, then joined the Gotham cheering section in the stands for the Adult division.

Our Adult team rounded out the category, skating eighth. They had made significant changes to the program based on feedback from Cape Cod Classic, and were hoping to improve their technical score. They skated clean and with tons of energy, and earned a season’s best of 49.83 - a Gotham City Synchro record! They ended up in 7th place in a competitive field, which is also a GCS Sectionals record in the Adult category.

Heading back to our “real lives” in NYC, Masters looked forward to Nationals, and Adult got excited to spend February working on new elements and synchro skills in preparation for another great season.
