Lake Placid Summer Training

To brush up on their skills and have some Summer training fun, four members of GCS travelled to Lake Placid for an Adult Synchro Camp. Taught by Josh Babb of the Skyliners Junior Team, the skaters worked on their stroking, stretching and emoting.

The team had a lot of fun testing out some new moves and are excited for the next season to begin!

NAME: Renee

CAREER: Product Designer

FAMILY/SIGNIFICANT OTHER: My husband Jim, and children Corinne and Jonas

WHEN/HOW YOU STARTED SKATING: I skated occasionally for fun as a kid and teenager. My younger sister was a competitive figure skater (who also skated “precision”), and my brother and dad skated hockey. I loved watching them, but it all seemed like a lot of work so I stayed away! Fast forward about 30 years to 2008 when I began taking learn to skate classes at Chelsea Piers with my family  and became addicted overnight. My sister just laughs and thinks I’m completely insane.

WHEN/HOW YOU STARTED SKATING SYNCHRO:
I met some persuasive ambassadors in 2009 who encouraged me to try. They were right, synchro skating is a fun challenge, and being on this team is a great experience.

FAVORITE SKATER: John Curry, Scott Hamilton, Kurt Browning…it would be a long list.

SKATING GOALS: To improve my control, to test moves, and to try ice dancing.
